This type of surgery, which is not used as often, reaches the prostate through an incision between your scrotum and anus.With this method, your surgeon is not able to check the lymph nodes for cancer. It is also more difficult to spare the nerves that control erections. This approach is used when the cancer is confined to the prostate.
Some experts believe that EVERY man will develop some degree of prostate cancer if he lives long enough. Autopsy studies have shown microscopic evidence of prostate cancer in 15-30% of men over the age of 50 and in 60-70% of men who reach age 80.
